Grading Winter Season 2025
Prior to the season starting we hold grading days and all Mini Roo and Junior players are requested to attend. The ideal objective is to place children into a team with players at a similar skill level to themselves.
We updated our approach to grading in 2020. Our philosophy is one where we aim to appropriately grade players so they have the potential to:-
- Enjoy their soccer
- Develop their skill and ability
- Play with team members of similar skill and ability
- Perform competitively in relative age / grade.

- All sessions are held at Buckle Reserve, Barnes Crescent, Menai
- Players must be registered to participate in grading
- Players should wear football boots and shin-pads and bring a bottle of water. Any shirt/shorts/socks can be worn. Bibs will be provided
- In the event of inclement weather please refer to our Facebook page for guidance
- Where two sessions are listed for an age group, players are requested to attend BOTH sessions. Session 1 is skill-based giving players the opportunity to demonstrate their individual skills whilst session 2 is game-based giving players the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in a game-play environment.
- Please arrive 10/15 minutes early and check in at the desk. Players will be marked off the roll and assigned a player number identified with a wristband.
U06 and U07 Team Formation Sessions
There are two ways in which Under 6 and Under 7 children may be allocated to a team for the 2025 season. There will be two assessment sessions (as per the above table) and irrespective of your choice, all players are required to attend both assessment sessions
The two options available are …
OPTION 1. Select your own team of a maximum of six players
Once players are registered, please complete the below team form and submit to the club at Buckle on grading day session 1 or email to the club at info@menaihawks.org.au by the date indicated listing the names of the players and coach/manager within the proposed team
OPTION 2. Be graded into a team of players of equal ability
If your child does not yet have a team, then the club will allocate each player to a team of similar ability players based on their performance at grading session 1. Their team will be advised during session 2.
Rest assured that every child will be placed into a team regardless of whether via option 1 or option 2. Every child is welcome at Menai Hawks
U06/U07 TEAM FORMATION PROCESS
- Each age group will participate in two sessions
- Session 1 is a skills session, followed by games to determine each player’s ability level (advanced, intermediate, beginner)
- Session 2 involves games amongst allocated teams. This is used by the club to determine which division each team will be placed into
